Frequently Asked Questions
-
Q: I added channels to my auto-join list (/aj) but it still doesn't auto-join when I connect to a server.
A: For auto-join to work you have to have the same network name in your XiRCON server list (in the connect dialog box) as you do in the auto-join list.
For example, to autojoin the channel #mp3 on efnet, you first need to add some servers to the XiRCON connect dialog with the network name "efnet".
Once you do that you need to add #mp3 to your auto-join list with this command:
/aj efnet #mp3

Q: I have servers in my XiRCON server list that aren't being used by crc.tcl and/or aren't showing up in the /serv listing.
A: XiRCON doesn't update the registry when you add a server in the connect dialog box.
So for crc.tcl to read new servers or servers you deleted, you have to exit and restart XiRCON.
It was either that or force you to maintain two sets of server listings (one in XiRCON and one in the crc.tcl server list).

Q: Everytime I do /gone or /back without a reason I get a long annoying fortune as the reason, how do I fix that?
A: The alias /fortune lets you set a filename or fortune (from the fortunes add-on) as the source for random fortunes.
For example if you want all random fortunes for /gone to be read from myfortunes.txt, create that file in the fortunes directory,
making sure the first line of the file is a number indicating how many lines are after.
Then you would run this command:
/fortune gone myfortunes
If you want to make /gone use fortunes from /handey and you have the fortunes add-on installed, you can use this command:
/fortune gone handey
Using /fortune with no arguments will tell you what other functions have configurable fortunes.

Q: Have you thought about adding <some feature> to crc.tcl?
A: Probably. Quite a few times when someone asked that, the feature was already there. /fhelp can search all the help for strings that might find a command you're looking for. If crc.tcl can't do what you want, I'd like to here your suggestion, and if it isn't retarded I'll probably add it.
-
Q: Why is crc.tcl still not 1.0?
A: Because I don't think its ready to be a 1.0 version yet. In each major version I add new functionality and commands,
so hopefully by the time 1.0 rolls around it will be a solid script with many features that have been thoroughly tested by the
meo testing group. Also maybe by then Mark Hanson will be in a drug rehabilitation program and be sober enough to release XiRCON 1.0
or the source code. We're pulling for you Mark, get well bud!

Q: Can I send you some money?
A: I'm glad you asked that. Yes you can, just email me and we'll work out the details.
Or you can become a member of the "send crc money" project, where you send me monthly checks that will assist me in my scripting projects.
By becoming a member you will receive these :
- My monthly newsletter via email thanking you for your donation.
- Peace of mind knowing you are an integral part of the crc.tcl project.
- Complete access to my web page.
- A full five minute personal chat with me on IRC, while we both use crc.tcl!
- I will also accept free computer hardware that works.
